Happy Mother's Day from Circle of Health International

COHI's work directly improves the lives of mothers in crisis settings. Our beneficiaries are mothers whose lives are improved through increased access to trained birth attendants. Mothers are our partners who courageously run the local organizations and clinics that COHI works to support through capacity building activities, training, and provision of supplies. Mothers are our own staff and members who carve out space in their lives to selflessly give of their time, money, and energy in connection with mothers elsewhere whose lives may not be as safe, supported, and secure as their own. And mothers are our donors, who give so generously of their hard-earned money to ensure that COHI's essential programming continues.

We'd like to take this chance to share with you our recent success with mothers in Palestine and Israel; mothers almost all. COHI's coexistence project, which focuses on bringing together Israeli and Palestinian midwives for professional development opportunities, can now boast of its first, brilliantly successful group meeting. For two full days, nine midwives from each group gathered in a quiet, protected birth center in northern Israel for a workshop to share labor and delivery protocols from their regions. The two days were full of laughter, learning, and open hearts as these women boldly demonstrated through their participation their commitment to partnership, peace, and professional development. It was an honor to bear witness to the trust and humility expressed during the meeting, and I believe this quote from one of the participants summarizes their motivations completely:

"By working towards non-violent birth, we are working to create a non-violent world."

COHI's next activities in Palestine and Israel will be hosting workshops where each group will share skills in topics such as suturing and positions for labor. Also, trainers visiting the region will provide workshops on additional topics such as waterbirth. COHI hopes to maintain a joint meeting for the groups once a month for the next year, allowing these women to support one another as professionals, friends, and mothers.

In order to continue this inspirational programming, YOUR support is needed. Please honor the mothers in your life by giving to COHI to support us in supporting mothers around the world to actualize the health and leadership that are rightly their own.

Warmly,
