Women's Health must not be forgotten in the Haiti crisis

In response to the most recent earthquake in Haiti, COHI will be responding with a team of women's health professionals to help meet the needs of the women there. As we know, women's health needs are only exacerbated during times of crisis and COHI needs to be there to help with reproductive health and various trauma needs. Haiti already suffers from the highest rate of maternal mortality in the region at 670 deaths per 100,000 live births, and we can only assume that this number will go up with the trauma and emergency needs of the women in that area.

COHI is currently asking you to help us reach these women by helping in the following ways:

  • Donate Funds Now! Your monetary donation will help make this trip possible. With your donation we'll be able to buy necessary supplies, hire local staff and ensure the safety and security of our volunteers. Please visit cohintl.org and make a donation. During checkout, please add to the "Add special instructions to the seller" field the following text: "Haiti Relief 2010."
  • Donate In-Kind! In-kind donations will be needed. We will not be bringing foodstuffs with us, but please feel free to contact info[at]cohintl.org if you have access to women's health-related donations.
  • Host a Fundraiser for the work that COHI will be doing in Haiti. Learn more about various fundraising options here.
  • Volunteer! Volunteer! If you feel you are an exemplary candidate for this trip AND have experience in Haiti and international crises experiences, we're still in the process of forming our team. Please explain any medical qualifications, women's health experience, international crisis experiences, MISP certification and language capabilities (Creole and French).
