Host Fundraiser

It is our pleasure to share COHI's new Organizational Fundraising Guide. The goal is to better serve those generous souls who are interested in hosting fundraisers for COHI. The guide provides examples of past events and a "how to get started" checklist. COHI relies on funding raised by individuals and groups like YOU through the hosting of events as varied as house parties to dramatic performances to summits of majestic mountains. Funds secured go directly to supporting COHI's essential programming in such places as Haiti and Tanzania. Don't wait to get involved, download it now and let COHI help you to connect directly with women living in crisis as you lend a hand to them in their plight for health and safety.

Interview with COHI Volunteer Anna Thomas

Anna recently organized an event benefitting COHI in Houston, Texas, entitled Queer and Misfits Prom.

Q: What moved you to organize and host this event for COHI?

A: Belief in COHI’s mission and vision. Desire to do something that i was capable of, that would be fun, and would help build community in my town, in addition to providing some much-needed discretionary funds to COHI. Belief that the GLBT communities should be involved with issues beyond domestic and GLBT-specific ones.

Q: What steps did you take to organize the event?

  1. A: Enlist the help of local partners who had skills and connections to support the event and were willing to donate their time and resources, such as photographers, artists, drag performers, MCs, DJs.
  2. Identify a venue that would be appropriate for the size, scale of the event and that would be supportive of the messages of the organization.
  3. Meet periodically to assure that work related to the event was getting done as it needed to be.
  4. Getting local press interested and making announcements at related events.
Q: How did you personally/professionally benefit from the event?

A: Feeling stronger about my skills in identifying funding and event planning, ability to do something domestically that has an impact globally, identified potential partners for future events and projects.
